B?tablokkers beschermen niet tegen colorectaalkanker
B?tablokkers die voorgeschreven worden voor de behandeling van hypertensie zorgen niet voor een afname van het risico om colorectaal kanker te krijgen. Onderzoekers van het Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum in Heidelberg vegen in een online publicatie in Cancer de heersende opvatting van tafel. Het idee over de preventieve werking van b?tablokkers in het ontstaan van colorectaalkanker kwam voort uit dierexperimenteel- en laboratoriumonderzoek. Noradrenaline stimuleert de groei en verspreiding van kankercellen. B?tablokkers remmen de werking van noradrenaline en zouden dus antitumoreigenschappen hebben. Maar de resultaten van onderzoek tot nu toe was inconsistent.

Een tweejaarlijks fundusonderzoek bij pati?nten met diabetes type 2 die nog geen tekenen van retinopathie hebben, is net zo veilig als ieder jaar screenen. Bovendien is de kosteneffectiviteit van het gebruik van deze ?safety producten? (*) onmiskenbaar positief voor de overheid.
